Over the last two centuries, river systems have been strongly degraded due to multiple human pressures. These pressures have frequently induced severe conditions of sediment starvation and/or water flow modifications, altering aquatic and riparian habitats, biocenosis and ecosystem services on the one hand. Owing to the on-going development of new remote sensing methods and field and numeric tools, new challenges into the quantification of rivers and the responses of communities resulting from human and/or natural perturbations can be actively tackled. This allows proposing a more functional and integrated river management in a rehabilitation context on the other hand. In this session, we invite all researchers who are keen on sharing their expertise on natural and human impacted river systems, new field and numeric methodologies developed in river rehabilitation/recreation context in the fields of fluvial geomorphology and ecology. Studies focusing on the effects of global climate change on the current eco-hydromorphological functioning of rivers are welcome as well.
